Grrrl crop tights and shirt… Thicc Girl approved

*Note* I am not paid by GRRRL. I bought these products with my own money. I just want to review them and let you know of a great company that I support. I have a link at the bottom of this blog post that they gave me and if you do buy something I will get a help with my next purchase. Please don’t feel obligated to use my link and you don’t have to buy anything. *end note*

I loved the dragon scale pants I got from Grrrl clothing so I decided to get some more. There was a great sale going on, and I was able to get this pair of crop tights, and a shirt on sale.

Crop Tights

I went down one size in pants. These pants straddle two girls sizes, and while they fit fantastically I wanted to see what the lower size felt like. I am happy I did. I wanted to see how a light colored pair of pants would fair in the squat test. I have to say I am over all pleased with the pants again. Its the same awesome soft satiny feeling fabric. It has great stretch and compression for my hard Thai workouts, and great for running.

These tights retail for $44.00 dollars. I have bought tights from ~$14.00 when I was starting out my journey, to ~ $60.00 for some of the more name brand tights like Nike, and Under Armour, just to give you a range. One of my favorite brands is still Under Armour. These are fantastic pants, really great quality, so super comfortable, and a great price point. I don’t have to tell you the $14.00 tights did not last long, and were not manufactured well.

You get what you pay for, and when you start out your journey it may be the correct answer. You don’t want to start a journey, try to get your habit established, and drop a lot of money on clothing. However, after you get your routine going, and you start building out your wardrobe and equipment. Shopping for and getting the best quality will make your workout all the better. Bonus points for making you laugh or making you feel special when you wear the clothing.

These pants also pass the squat test. There was a little bit of panty showing. However, keep in mind I wore dark panties, navy blue with a very light colored pants. I am still happy with how much it covers up.

These pants made me laugh. I graphics they have all over this fabric.

Muay Thai T-Shirt

I was also able to get a shirt that I have wanted for a while. It says Kick Like A Grrrl. With an image of a female Thai fighter on the front. It makes me smile when I see it, and bonus it is slightly glittery.

I was pleasantly surprised about this shirt. I thought it was just going to be cotton when I bought it. However, it is really a super soft and a little stretchy cotton shirt. Here is their description.

“We’ve finally found the perfect fit tee shirt. Made from glorious soft af cotton, this shirt has the softest, finest touch of fabric you’ve ever felt. It nearly feels like bamboo. WIth a style that is not fitted, and yet not a sack, the Lift OH Ali shirt is a perfect semi-lightweight tee that will delight all the senses.

If you look closely, the screen print is encrusted with sparkles, so when you kick like a grrrl, and bust some ass…. you can do it with some extra glitter and sparkles.”

It is $19.99 and so worth the money. Now when I kick the crap out of the pads I can do it and sparkle at the same time. =)

Again the packaging was fantastic, everything came as I ordered it. The manufacturing of their clothing is fantastic. I could not ask for more.

If you have not seen my other post about Thicc Girl Approved pants, let me give you a little info about this company. It is called Grrrl, and it supports all women of all sizes. It celebrates us all, and makes clothing for all girls.

GRRRL – OUR WHY….

We exist to empower women to share their experiences and to come together as one to make the world a better place.

We will do that by fighting to remove the barriers that get in the way of women realizing their potential.”

They want to empower women, and have us raise each other up, instead of competing.

Thank you for reading and have a great day!

If you are interested in ordering from this company use this link that they gave me.

Saturday Krav and Striking…Reaper, Inosanto 18 count, Southpaws are SOL

After roughly 4 hours of martial arts training, I am pooped. Today was fantastic, and I got to learn a new 18 count routine. Writing down what a Soutpaw has to do to change the counts to work for them is mind bending and I don’t have the capacity for it tonight. =)

Krav – Reaper Sweeps

Today we made it to Krav Maga on time, and we got to work on Reaper Sweeps. I have had some late nights at work so I have not been able to make it to the Krav classes. The reaper sweep is a dump where we gain an entry after an attack and do a modified T position. We cinch in your arms off balance the opponent and leaver pull your leg up while levering forward. We got to do outside reaper sweeps, and inside reaper sweeps.

My back was not happy with me this morning so I let my instructor know and we modified the dumps for me, where my training partners, performed the moves, and I would get on the ground although not so gracefully. We learned how to follow up with more hits to the head and posting off of their wrists to jump up and get out of harms way. I try not to let my physical impairments get in my way of training, and try to work around it. Just be honest with your instructors and I find they are understanding. If they are not, then perhaps they are not the instructors for you.

Between class we worked on Muay Thai training to keep warm and to hopefully get better. Here are some of the things we worked on.

Here I am practicing my Muay Thai double kick. I start by placing a leg kick so as not to hurt my partner/pad holder, and then throw in the torso round house kick. We are working on timing and changing levels. This is because you are not always going to kick just the leg or just the torso in a fight.

Below I am practicing just my Muay Thai round house kicks. These hurt on the right side cause I have three bruises on my shin. Those bruises are from shielding a kick and a person ending up kneeing my shin instead of getting a kick in. These are normal bumps and scrapes that happen Muay Thai but it does not mean it does not hurt. =) Although I can say I have gotten more used to them.

Striking – Inosanto 18 count

Today we got Kru Krysta back! I was excited to see her, and she wanted us to work on the Inosanto 18 count.

For the whole class we broke the 18 count into digestible chunks, then we strung them together so that we could do all 18 count at once. I just realized I had not described what a # count means. An 18 count means 18 individual strikes. Below are the individual strikes in the Inosanto 18 count.

Inosanto 18 count: (note: Sorry you southpaw fighters are SOL right now. Cause that stuff is confusing. If you really want to know the southpaw Inosanto 18 let me know. I will ask my husband to translate to southpaw for me.)

  1. Scoop the incoming teep
  2. Right leg kick
  3. Left torso round house kick
  4. Cross
  5. Hook
  6. Right torso round house kick
  7. Cut Kick as opponent Right kick comes in and land a Left leg kick
  8. Right leg kick
  9. Left torso round house kick
  10. Cross
  11. Hook
  12. Right torso round house kick
  13. Scoop incoming cross
  14. Cross
  15. Hook
  16. Right Elbow
  17. Right pushing knee
  18. Right torso round house kick.

This 18 count was a lot of fun. I could be wrong but it feels like I picked this combination up quickly. When we first started almost a year ago I had trouble remembering more than 4 strikes in the Thai 15 count or the Boxing 20 count. So when I would come home to try to write it down so I could practice it I was stuck. However, today we learn a 18 count and I can mentally move through each strike/counter and see what we did. Now I think there are a few things going for me on this. One being I understand the moves much more clearly now. I would say that this is marked improvement. So yay!

Thank you for reading and I hope you have a great weekend. Let me know if you have any questions and I will try to answer them.

Thursday Muay Thai and Kali… Encouraging the body, Puta/Basset from Pummel

It has been an interesting week to say the least. Sick kid, turned to emergency allergic reaction to meds kid, all while I am trying to keep the household in order, and work life going. I had my own yearly check up. Which I am happy to say I am healthy, but had some miscommunication so I was a little concerned.

Muay Thai- Encouraging the body

In Muay Thai today, we had a blast. I was sweating up a storm. I don’t know if you can see how soaked I am in this picture. Anyway, we worked on the 8 version of 4 count today again. Video of the full 8 are on this weeks previous Tuesday Muay Thai and Kali post. We then worked on clench work with a take down, where you off balance a person so they fall down. This is where our Kru Kristen, also shows us how to “Encourage the body”, where if they are not going down you kick the knee. sweep the leg, kick the ankle. In training we do not do that, but we place our foot in the correct position. If we did it in training, we would be hurting our partners and that would be bad.

We did ladders as well, where you start at one kick on each side, up to 5 kicks on each side. Those are brutal and fun at the same time. I will add these to our Wednesday training sessions.

Kali – Puta Kapala and Basset Dal from Pummel

So today in Kali, we worked more on Silat and take downs from the Pummel entry. We worked on “swimming” with our partner where we move back and forth trying to get underhooks in. We are working on feeling our partners energy. By energy I mean, when we can feel where our partner is going to based on the movement of center of gravity. When I can feel it change, I can get a better handle on when it will be advantageous for me to move them and get them off balance. Then I can put their bodies where I want them to, and can do the most damage.

This was fun, because we have now done Puta Kapala, and Basset Dal, from the shield block entry, from the striking entry, and now from pummel entry. I am starting to see where all of this connects and it is awesome. When I make that mental connection it clicks more for me.

Anyway thank you all for reading. I am amazed I have readers from all over the world, and I want to say hallo/hello to you all. Have a great night, I need to be better about getting to bed on time.

Tuesday Muay Thai and Kali… 4 more Thai 4 counts, and Silat Basset Dal

forgive me I have wild hair

Getting to kick and hit things in Muay Thai was very cathartic. I have been carrying around some anxiety about a lot of things including my son being sick, and having a horrible allergic reaction. Having to watch him like a hawk to make sure that he is still breathing.

We found out that my son is allergic to the quinolone antibiotic. That is what was causing his reaction. So he is off of those antibiotics, we are hoping his infection is cleared up, and now we have to dose him with Benadryl.

Muay Thai, 4 more Thai 4 counts

On to more fun things. Today was Muay Thai and Kali. It was 2 hours of hitting and kicking, and it was great! I love learning, and trying to get tweak my movements to make them better, faster, more powerful.

So today Kru Kristen was back. She went to the Inosanto instructor camp. They did some Thai 4 counts that she wanted us to do today. So we added them to our normal 4.

Normal 4 counts include:

  1. Left kick (torso or leg), cross, hook, right torso roundhouse kick
  2. Right kick (torso or leg), hook, cross, left torso roundhouse kick
  3. Left kick (torso or leg), cross, hook, left torso roundhouse kick
  4. Right kick (torso or leg), hook, cross, right torso roundhouse kick

We added these four for a total of 8:

  1. Jab, cross, left kick (torso or leg), right torso kick
  2. Jab, cross, right kick (torso or leg), left torso kick
  3. Jab, cross, left kick (torso or leg), left torso kick
  4. Jab, cross, right kick (torso or leg), right torso kick.

These are not any new moves for us, but it is a new way of drilling and getting repetitions in. Because, we all know one of the key ways you improve is to get repetitions in.

Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.”

Pablo Picasso

The key is to over train your body, and mind. You do this so that your muscle memory and your actions become automatic. At first your learning is forced. You are so focused on the how, and mimicking others, that it is hart and you have to slog through it. Think back to learning how to read, and how it felt like work. Well eventually it is a automatic thing. You can read things fast, and glean the knowledge you need from just a glance. Eventually we hope to have our bodies move in Thai as if we are just walking, or running. It is automatic, rote, or something you do without thinking. When my brain see’s something coming at my head, my brain will eventually send signals for my body to react and cover to protect the head.

Here is a video of all 8 Thai 4 counts

Kali – Basset Dal vs Sapu Dal

In Kali we worked on Silat again. We learned that Basset means facing away, and Dal means in between the legs. Where Sapu means facing the opponent, and Dal means between the legs. So today we focused on Basset Dal, where we entered from the similar Thai 4 count. Left kick, Cross, Hook, Right kick.We answer the left kick with a destruction, then we slip the cross, then we had to high cover the hook and perform a posting choke, where the thumb is right under the adams apple, then we block the right kick while pushing the opponent away. After that we move to control the arm by rolling the bicep and forcing them down, off balancing them and then dumping them.

This was fun, and we are getting to a point where we know some of the basic moves, such as basset dal, and puta kapala, that we are now just fine tuning it, trying to make them more smooth, more flowing, and more finding the entries.

I got dumped multiple times and better yet I got to dump a lot of people. It is fun to feel where body mechanics takes over and your actions cause peoples bodies to just move to your whim. Because I guarantee you if you push on a persons knee they will move it back. Their body is smarter than you think and will want to preserve functionality, by avoiding being hurt.

We got to do a sticky legs drill, where we got to feel just that. Where your partner/opponent can feel when your body is about to move, and you have to re-position, and get them in a hold again.

Thank you all for reading my blog. I started this and continue to do this to log/write down my training, and my journey. So I am surprised that any of you read it. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Pablo Picasso had it right… I am going to keep learning Muay Thai, and Kali like a professional fighter would, and then I can perform it with my flare like any great martial artist.

Weight Lifting Workout…3/11/2019

When your son breaks out and has a horrible allergic reaction it will put a crimp in your plans. That is what happened today. I got my 17 min HIIT Run in, and he started presenting with welts and itching all over.

I stopped called the advice nurse for our pediatrician and had to administer Benadryl. We have stopped his meds for eye infection and have an appointment tomorrow for him.

Worried Mama is worried, and stressed out.

I only write this, so that you all can seen its a thing to have some one or something mess up your workout schedule. You do what you can when you can and you move on. I used to worry about it, stress about it, and get all bent out of shape cause I did not get my full workout in on top of dealing with the other stress. I have learned though that you have to take care of you and your family. It seems stupid to say this… but a person like me can get very single minded and stress over the fact that I have say a cold, or the flu, or some other thing stopped my workout.

I used to worry that missing one thing, was going to send me right back to where I started and that is just not the case. Your body is smart and missing one day is not going to through you off.

Anyway this is what I planned to do, and will do the rest of the week universe willing.

Workout:

  1. HIIT run 17 minute, 3 minute warm up, 1 minute sprint, 2 minute run, lather rinse repeat, 2 minute cool down
  2. Kettle bell swings
  3. Squat and press
  4. hip thrusters weighted
  5. bulgarian split squats
  6. double leg pike
  7. planks

Anyway I did not get to the weight lifting part, but I did get my run in. I will shoot for Wednesday for weight lifting and running. I try to do Mon, Wed, Fri, weight lifting with Martial arts on Tues, Thurs, Sat.

Thanks for reading and have a great day. I am going to try and not worry now, and go to work. Leaving husband to deal with kiddos.

Healthy Lunch/Breakfast… Vibrant Springtime Asparagus and Eggs

Today for lunch, I wanted something light. I had a big breakfast and was not super hungry. So I made Garlic Lemon and Cayenne Blanched Asparagus, with two fried eggs. Spring cannot come soon enough. Asparagus is going to start popping up in the stores. So try this light, vibrant dish out.

This was so satisfying and delicious. It was light, but had enough fat and protein to be fulfilling. If you like the idea of Hollandaise sauce this will be right up your alley. This is a less caloric, and has less fat than Hollandaise sauce. The main reason is that lack of butter. This is so very satisfying in the same way. Taking out the Hollandaise sauce you remove for about 4 ounces or 1/2 cup you take out 140 calories, and 14 grams of fat. The sauce is made by adding pats of butter to wisking/cooking egg yolk and lemon juice. Those majority of those calories and fat come from the butter and the extra yolks for the sauce.

My digression and some background:

I also added finishing salt to the meal with Maldon salt.

” The brand was Maldon—Maldon Sea Salt Flakes. It came from a 135-year-old family-owned salt works on the southeast coast of England. My wife had been buying it for years. “

https://www.bonappetit.com/story/history-of-maldon-salt

Maldon salt is a flaky sea salt that is used for finishing your food. When I feel like being super special I will pull out the Maldon. Let me put this into perspective. For the boiling water to blanch the asparagus, I just used regular granulated salt. It will be dissolving in water and does not need to be super special. This salt you put on your food cause you want to taste it. You want to taste the different minerals in it. The minerals in the “fancy” salts are what gives it different flavors.

” Once upon a time, salt was just salt. It was the stuff in shakers and canisters, the gustatory equivalent of the treble dial. You used more, or you used less. Whether it was a little girl with an umbrella, a toss over the left shoulder to ward off bad luck, or a nontaster’s affront to the chef, it was all just salt. “

https://www.bonappetit.com/story/history-of-maldon-salt

Make your food interesting and fun, and delicious and it will be such a satisfying part of your life. I digress though back to the recipe.

Recipe: Garlic Lemon and Cayenne Blanched Asparagus (yields 2 servings)

Ingredients:

  1. 2 bunches of asparagus
  2. 1 lemon zested
  3. 1/2 lemon juiced
  4. 2 cloves of garlic sliced
  5. 1 tsp of olive oil
  6. 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper plus a little more for sprinkling on top of eggs
  7. Maldon salt for finishing
  8. Pepper to taste
  9. Granulated salt for blanching water

Directions:

  1. Take a spear of asparagus and holding both ends bend till it breaks. Where it breaks cut the rest around that area. Because that is where the woody part of it basically ends. Blanch the asparagus in salinated/salted boiling water, for about 2 minutes or till just tender but still has a crunch. Remove from water and dunk in ice bath or bowl with cold water to stop the cooking.
  2. In a pan add oil, cayenne, and garlic, heat till garlic starts to brown around edge. Drain and add asparagus to the pan, toss the asparagus in the oil in pan just to coat. Portion out Asparagus onto two plates. Squeeze a little bit of lemon on them. Add lemon zest to asaparagus.
  3. Fry 4 eggs, in the same pan. Take plats and add egg to the asparagus. Garnish with pepper, Maldon salt, lemon zest, and sprinkle of cayenne.
  4. Serve and enjoy immediately

Saturday Striking class… tiny tweaks, clench work, lots of kicks, and cake

Drenched in Sweat

2 hours of Muay Thai practice, and I am pooped. We ended with clench work, and we were all working so hard we were all drenched in sweat. But lets start at the beginning first.

Today we made it to striking class. We focused on Muay Thai today, and had a great teacher named Dom. Both Kru Kristen, and Kru Krysta are still out at the instructor camp for Inosanto.

Kicks

We started out with stations, jump rope, heavy bag teep and kick, and then shadow boxing to warm up. We then went right into Thai 4 counts. We practiced leg kicks. It has been a long time since we have worked on leg kicks and I can say I am not as good at them as I am at round house kicks. I need to work more on them. You are supposed to turn your kick so much that your knee is almost pointing at the floor, and you are supposed to sink your weight into the kick.

We then worked on sparing where we tried to get any variation of left to right kicks in. My favorite things to do is to feint a left kick then teep the person, and follow with hook and cross. Or I like to throw a cross, and leave my hand there in their face, while I get a right round house kick in. It often tricks people and they don’t see it coming, so I get a hit in. =)

Tiny Tweaks

I had the pleasure of working with Dom personally, he helped me make tiny tweaks to my cross. I need to remember to fully extend my arm, and rotate my pointer finger and middle finger knuckles down when I punch to get the full extension and straight line. I have had Kru tell me the same thing but having a person take off my glove and actually have me punch while they turn my hand was so super helpful. I am so excited to keep practicing this and hopefully make my punch much better.

Clench Work

After all this we ended with clench work, and we were all working so hard we were all drenched in sweat. We got to play around. Trying our different things with our partners, to see if we could get in, make a frame and get the upper hand. Hah! It was so much fun. One girl and I were just giggling as we grunted and tried to get into full plumb

I had a blast today at class. I finally got a tripod to put my phone in to video some of my kicks. Here is a video of me doing right round house kicks to, right hop kicks. We were working on the right hop kicks last Thursday and I still need to work on them. I need to get my knee up higher to create more momentum.

After our class I had a date with a friend that I was so looking forward to. We went to a bougie coffee shop where I got a chance to have a coffee, a piece of cake and great conversation. The cake won! I was not able to eat even half of that cake it was so big. But it was nice to have a treat after a great workout.

If you have gotten this far. Thank you for reading. I hope you have a fantastic rest of your weekend. Keep being awesome and I think its ok to have a treat once in a while.

Thursday Muay Thai and Kali…Hop Kicks, Puta Kapala from Jab Cross entry

I just got done with 2 hours of Muay Thai and Kali, and boy was it nice to get to do my training. Doing something that is normal in my life. Because this morning did not start off normal. I had one of those cringe moments that every parent has, when the dreaded pink eye mentioned.

Waking up to find that your son has pink eye, will throw off your day. So today my son woke up and told us that his eye was crusty. I had been keeping an eye on him… haha, no pun intended. I had been keeping an eye on him, because he was around another kid who’s eye was red and crusty on Monday of this week. I got him into the pediatrician at 8 am, and we promptly found out that he has pink eye. He has medicine, and as of tomorrow will not be contagious any more.

On top of doc appointment, getting the medicine from the pharmacist, and dealing with every day family stuff. I also bleach bombed my house. I bleached and disinfected every surface of my house that I could think of that would have been touched. Everyone’s sheets and blankets, and his winter coat as well. So I am and was tired getting to the gym, but ready and raring to go. I needed this.

Muay Thai : Hop Kicks

Let me just hop… (hahah that was an accidental pun as well)… into the Muay Thai. Today both Kru were away at an Inosanto instructor camp. So we had a guest Thai teacher. He had us warming up with stations, jump rope, teep to kick on bags, shadowboxing, and then mirror movement to teep.

We worked on partial Thai 4 counts, where we teep with lead leg, right kick, then cross. The reason this was emphasized is that it is a different rhythm to what we normally do. You see in Thai a lot of the time if you do a right kick you return with a hook or cross, because you will have set up your body to do the opposite hand hit. So when you kick with the right leg then hit with the cross as an orthodox fighter, your opponent will not expect it.

The other partial Thai 4 count we did, is the front teep, left kick, to cross. What was emphasized on this one was the teep to cut step quick left kick. Because the habit or what your body wants to do is to teep and then put your foot down right in front of you. However, doing this drill we try to work on our balance bringing the foot back to do a quick cut step and left kick. It changes the rhythm again and my take your opponent of guard.

After all that we worked on Hop Kicks. Man trying to make the lead leg do a hop kick my brain is telling my body to do this thing, but either my leg is stupid or there is a miss fire/miss communication between my brain and my leg. That is what it feels like. We have to bring our knee forward and up, with momentum going forward place the foot down then do the kick. Yeah… I am going to have to work on those on my own, in front of the mirror. I have to get my brain and my body to synchronize.

Kali: Puta Kapala from the Jab Cross Entry

In Kali we had another guest teacher, because again both our Kru are at an Inosanto Instructor camp. He had us doing Silat again. We worked on the Puta Kapala again, but this time from the Jab Cross entry.

There were 4 entries we got to 3 of them that we were able to rep out.

  1. Outside Deflect from the Jab Cross to Puta Kapala
  2. Slip the Jab Cross to Puta Kapala
  3. Inside Deflect from the Jab Cross to Puta Kapala
  4. Reverse slip/Scissor/Gunting from the Jab Cross to Puta Kapala

We did 1 through 3. It was all clicking and I was not have a brain melty moment.

What you are seeing here is the instructor showing the first two, number 1 and number 2. I thought you might like to see some one who knows what they are doing instead of me. =)

Here I am doing the outside deflect entry of the Puta Kapala.

Here I am doing the slip entry of the Puta Kapala.

I did not get video of the 3 rd one. This one we deflect the cross with the right hand and mouse the bicep, followed with control of the other arm, eye sweep, throat punch, elbow, knee, to the Puta Kapala.

This was a fun class, and things were clicking. The Puta Kapala we were doing Tuesday and last week we were doing from the shield of kick. So this is the Puta Kapala with different entry. Either way you get your opponent on the floor, and then you can deal with them as you need to. Goose necking the wrist or submitting them, or hitting them and running away.

I got home was a little hungry so I made a snack of yogurt, fresh fruit, and a small bit of granola. It is important to refuel your body. Especially when it is telling you that it is hungry. Just make it something that your body can put to good use.

Thanks for reading again. I hope you have a great rest of your week.

Tuesday Muay Thai and Kali… Thai Test Leveling UP!, Silat Puta Kapala, and another take down.

Just a little sore from yesterday… Yay! My hamstrings are not happy with me, but that is ok. That means I targeted them and got a good workout in yesterday. 2 hours of Muay Thai and Kali training.

Testing for Green Band

Today was a great day again in Muay Thai. We had a Thai Test. What that means is we all line up and demonstrate our knowledge of the the Thai, Kicks, Elbows, Knees, Teeps, and Punches. Kru will say lead leg round house kick through, and shield, go. Then we have to demonstrate that we understand what she is saying.

We then worked on (Cross, Jab, Lead Kick), (Cross, Jab, Rear Kick), (Cross, Jab, Rear Knee), (Cross, Jab, Lead Knee), (Cross, Jab, Short Teep/Rear Teep), (Cross, Jab, Long Teep/Front Teep). This was a lot of fun. The Kru goes around viewing us and seeing what level we are at. What our moves look like.

After that we worked on the Thai 4 count. (Left/lead kick, cross, hook, right/rear kick), ( Right/rear kick, hook, cross, Left/lead kick), (Left/lead kick, cross, hook, left/lead kick), (Right/rear kick, hook, cross, right/rear kick). I am making it a point to say front or rear, because I was working with a south paw all night and his jabs come from the opposite side of mine, his hooks, everything is is different, and he has to think of it as rear kick, verses right or left. For him the rear kick is his left kick. =) So its a different way of thinking and it makes it hard to hold pads for someone that is opposite your stance. But you know what we both will be super proficient on both stances if we work together more.

Anyway… lets get to the point. I tested today. I was an orange band and was testing for green band. I got it! I passed and now have a green band. I leveled up! I am so happy. I was beaming, and Kru Kristen gave me a huge compliment, on how I bring everyone together as a family. Before I started she said “everyone did not feel like family, and now that I am and have been here. I draw them together.” I almost shed a tear, because that was so sweet of her to say. I was tough and did not get emotional and embarrass myself in front of the whole class. =)

This is the armband progression we are following.

Kali- Silat Puta Kapala and two more take downs I can’t remember the name of.

Kali was fun today, we worked more on Silat forms. We added throat gouging in, pulling the opponent off balance toward us, hooking our foot behind their foot and then simultaneously pushing them and sweeping their foot. Your opponent then falls backward and is in a prone position.

We worked on a move where we parry the jab, slip the cross, upper cut them, hit them in the genitals, then controlling the arm they used to throw a cross at us, we step forward off balancing them. Putting our leg behind theirs and lowering our center of gravity, elbow them in the stomach and then push them over our leg, right on their behind. I believe this is a version of the Puta Kapala that you use if they step with the inner foot.

It may say something about me, but I like moving a few limbs, countering an opponents move, and using their energy to dump them on the ground. One of these days I will get better and be more smooth about it. When it works it goes so fast and is amazingly easy. When I am not doing everything right it is more difficult, I have to muscle it. Then I know I am not off balancing my opponent correctly.

That is all. That was my night and as I sit here typing, I am eating a snack of Hot N’ Spicy pickle bites. I really was craving the salt.

Thank you for reading this far. Have a great night, and keep working toward your goals. I never thought I would be studying/learning Muay Thai, 2 years ago. You never know where you will be.

Weight Lifting Workout for the week of 3/4/2019… Squeeze a workout in

Mondays are the worst for me. I have to wake up at 5 am, and from there it is feed the family, work at my first job with little kids, come home and feed kids, and deal with my kids, then feed family dinner, then go to work. In there some where I have to squeeze a workout in. I do it. I may not like it. It may not be ideal but I do it. =) That is a small victory for me and for my health.
